Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to provide information on the 2019-2020 Universal Influenza Immunization Program (UIIP). Ontario’s UIIP provides publicly funded influenza vaccine for all individuals aged 6 months or older who live, work or attend school in Ontario. The program is administered by the provincial Ministry of Health. Vaccines are distributed to pharmacies via the province and to physicians via public health units, such as Ottawa Public Health (OPH).

We recognize that many of you are now planning your immunization clinics for the fall. Vaccine supply, ordering, and provision to different sectors is a complex issue and the exact dates for vaccine distribution are not yet available. We are in continuous communication with the Ministry of Health with regards to this program and will provide you with the relevant information as it becomes available.

OPH will be using the same process of vaccine ordering as in previous years, with a fax going out to influenza vaccine providers when the program begins. Please note that Flumist® (live, intranasal influenza vaccine) will not be available this year for public or private use as the manufacturer will not be supplying it to the Canadian market.
