The Ministry of Health has informed Ottawa Public Health that various brands and formulations of rabies immune globulin (RabIg) will be distributed. The various brands and formulations are as follows:

  • HyperRAB – supplied as 300IU/mL x 1mL vials
  • Imogam and KamRAB – supplied in 150IU/mL x 2mL vials

Please note that the products have different dilution instructions should dilution be needed in order to completely infiltrate all the wound(s). HyperRAB (as per the product monograph) can be diluted with an equal volume of dextrose, 5% (D5W). Imogam (as per product monograph) and KamRAB (as per communication with Valneva; not in product monograph) can be diluted two-fold to three-fold with sterile saline (0.9% sodium chloride).

Ottawa Public Health has updated its printed and on-line rabies resource materials accordingly.

Animal bites are immediately reportable to Ottawa Public Health – by phone:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at 613-580-2424 x 72243
  • After hours, on weekends, and on holidays: call 3-1-1 to report.
