A new service in Orléans to accurately weigh babies   is available to complement physician / nurse practitioner and IBCLC virtual consultations. Recognizing that accurate weights are essential for assessment of breastfeeding and normal growth patterns, OPH has worked in collaboration with the Orléans-Cumberland Community Resources Centre (OCCRC) to increase in-person services.

Baby weighing services are now available for your patients on Tuesday afternoons at two different sites:

  • Centretown Community Health Centre: to book an appointment, patients can call 613-233-4697.
  • Orléans-Cumberland Community Resource Centre (OCCRC): to book an appointment, patients can call 613-830-4357 and ask to speak with the EarlyON team.

Please note that this is not a medical appointment, and a health care provider will not assess the baby or the weight. Parents who have questions will be directed to their physician, health care provider or the Baby Help Line at 613-580-2424, ext.23774.

For some breastfeeding mothers, in-person breastfeeding support is essential to establish and maintain breastfeeding. OPH has opened one more location for in-person breastfeeding support by appointment:

  • Tuesdays at 100 Constellation Dr, Nepean, ON K2G 6J8
  • Wednesdays at 33 Quill St, Ottawa, ON K1k 1S3
  • Thursdays at 255 Centrum Blvd, Orleans, ON K1E 3X7

Patients can access this service by calling the Baby Help Line 613-580-2424, ext. 23774 and speaking to one of our lactation consultants (IBCLC). The full list  of all the Ottawa agencies offering in-person free breastfeeding support can be found here.

Through the pandemic, OPH’s Healthy Growth and Development program has continued to offer home visits, virtually and in-person, from pregnancy until the child goes to school. Service is offered in the language of the patient.

Patients who may benefit from our home visiting program include (but are not limited to):

  • Newcomers (less than 5 years in Canada)
  • Teenage parents
  • Families living in shelters
  • Patients dealing with addiction and/or mental health issues

To refer your patients to the program please use the web form or fax the pdf referral form to 613-580-9646.
