Lyme Disease Post Exposure Prophylaxis

Lyme disease ­– The prevalence in Ottawa of Borrelia burgdorferi (the agent of Lyme disease) in local Ixodes scapularis (the blacklegged tick vector) is now high enough that Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is recommending post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) under select circumstances.

Adults born between 1970 and 1992 may have only received one dose of MMR vaccine and may still be susceptible to mumps.

All suspected or confirmed cases of mumps must be reported to Ottawa Public Health (OPH) by telephone at 613-580-6744, ext 24224, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or through 3-1-1 outside of these regular business hours.
