The opioid overdose crisis continues to worsen across Ontario during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Ottawa is no exception. Opioid-related deaths are occurring in people using alone, particularly in neighbourhoods with higher material deprivation. In 2020, Ottawa experienced a 60% increase in opioid overdose-related Emergency Department visits with 779 visits, compared to 486 visits in 2019 (NACRS, 2021).
