Board Members

Brent Bauer has provided leadership in public health response strategies for over two decades, as part of volunteer andadvocacy work in the 2LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS movements, beginning in 1999 as a member of the Board of Directors of EGALE Canada. From 2003 to 2007, he served on the Board of Directors of Bruce House, a supportive housing agency in Ottawa for persons living with HIV/AIDS, the last three years as Chair. The Government of Ontario’s Ministry of Health also appointed him as a ‘Community Champion’ in 2005 to lead Ottawa’s community planning process as Chair of the Ottawa-Carleton Council on HIV\AIDS. From 2008-2009 Mr. Bauer became involved in the criminalization of HIV transmission issue in Ottawa, serving for two years as Co-Chair of an Ottawa Working Group on the issue, with Ottawa’s Associate Medical Officer of Health.

From 2010-12, he was a member of the Steering Committee of GayZone, Ottawa’s health clinic for guys into guys, and from 2012 to 2015 worked with colleagues in Ottawa to incorporate and establish MAX Ottawa, as Ontario’s pioneering gay men’s health and wellness organization. From 2015 - 2021, he served as the first Chair of the new organization, as well as on the Board of Directors of the Ontario HIV/AIDS Treatment Network, the data, research and collective impact ‘backbone’ organization for Ontario’s response to HIV/AIDS, the last three as Vice-Chair. He current volunteer position, since 2022, is Vice-Chair of the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre.

Mr. Bauer also has over twenty years of experience in the Public Service of Canada, half at the Executive level, with a focus on the design and delivery of grants and contributions programming to community organizations serving vulnerable populations, including youth-at-risk, persons at the risk of homelessness, Veterans, persons living with HIV\AIDS, and persons with disabilities.

Sabrina Chung is a former aspiring journalist/writer turned Registered Nurse.  Possessing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), certificate in Emergency Management, and Master of Public Health (MPH), she is currently a Nurse Advisor with the Public Health Agency of Canada.  Her professional experience includes neonatal intensive care, organ and tissue donation, global/community/Indigenous health, and emergency preparedness and response.  She has always loved music and singing, any genre of music, barbershop being the most recent.  Her toddler, husband and cats keep her on her toes and young at heart.

Tammy DeGiovanni is Senior Vice-President of Clinical Services and Chief Nurse Executive at CHEO, a global leader in pediatric health care and research. In her role, she oversees the organization’s acute care, mental health and addictions, child development and community services programs. A passionate nursing and patient advocate, Tammy’s career spans over two decades with a focus on child and youth health through management and leadership roles at the regional, provincial and national levels. In addition to her nursing degree, Tammy also graduated with a Master of Health Administration from the University of Ottawa. A mom of two teenagers, Tammy is a lifelong volunteer, having dedicated her time with various organizations including the Big Sisters Association, the Nepean All-City Jazz Band, her local school council and community association.

Nwanneka Ejiofor is a Social Worker at the Ministry of the Solicitor General – Ontario Public Service. She holds a Master of Social Work degree. Her over fifteen years career in social work includes working as a psychotherapist, case manager and in community outreach. She plays a very active role in community mobilization by promoting the principles of the Canadian Multiculturalism Act in her Nigerian community in Ottawa.

Nwanneka has been on many committees including Lanark County Situation Table and Youth at Risk of Lanark Leeds and Grenville. She has served as an executive member in many of the associations in her Nigerian community. She received an award for her contributions to the Igbo Women Association Ottawa. She is a guest lecturer at Dalhousie University.

Emily is the President & CEO of Children’s Healthcare Canada, a national, non-profit association representing over 50 healthcare delivery organizations serving children, youth and families. Emily is a trusted voice and passionate champion for Canada’s 8 million kids, working with healthcare providers, family partners and elected officials to measurably improve their experiences and outcomes of care.

Emily wears many other professional hats. She is the Executive Director of the Pediatric Chairs of Canada, the co-Chair of Solutions for Kids in Pain, and was recently appointed to the Board of the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

Prior to her work in children’s health, Emily spent 13 years at the Canadian Medical Association. In the past, she has served the boards of The Ottawa Hospital, Arnprior Regional Health, and Carefor Home and Healthcare Services. She is the co-founder of Emerging Health Leaders and EmpowerHER, two national networks created to advance the development of health systems leaders.

Emily lives in Stittsville with her husband and two children.
