Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Online Learning, Public Health Ontario
Public Health Ontario (PHO) offers a variety of online Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Online Learning modules and resources.
Accessing courses
- In order to access modules, you must have a My PHO account and be logged in to access the learning management system (LMS) which hosts many of the IPAC education modules.
- PHO has implemented a new registration and login system. To continue accessing your account, re-register using the same email previously linked to your account.

Certificates of completion
Most courses offer a certificate of completion. Requirements vary and are outlined in the PHO full course description.
Overview
Available courses, for physicians & NPs:
IPAC for Health Care Workers
Course duration: Each module takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete
Modules: 5 – one course overview module, three core modules plus choice of one (or more) setting-specific modules.
Description: Interactive, scenario-based course includes critical practice elements such as understanding the chain of transmission, conducting a point-of-care risk assessment and critical IPAC practices such as hand hygiene. It also includes the elements of additional precautions and actions to take when an infection is suspected or confirmed. It can be incorporated into ongoing training, orientation for new staff, or as a refresher. This new course replaces the existing IPAC Core Competencies course.
Reprocessing in Community Health Care settings
Course duration: 2 to 4 hours
Modules: 9
Description: For health care providers who reprocess reusable medical equipment/devices. This course provides you with knowledge of:
- general concepts in reprocessing
- basic knowledge and skills for safely reprocessing reusable medical equipment/devices
- knowledge related to the importance of following best practices and the consequences of inadequate reprocessing
- best practices in reprocessing

IPAC Tips for Visiting All Health Care Settings
Description: Resources providing evidence-based information to help prevent or reduce the risk of transmission of harmful germs in order to keep communities safe, in this case primarily health care providers, clients, patients, residents and visitors.
