Welcome to the STI Med Program!
Publicly-funded medications to treat Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) are available through Ottawa Public Health (OPH).
By pre-ordering and maintaining your clinic’s stock of these medications, you will be able to treat patients as they present to your clinic. Timely treatment of patients and their sexual partners with first-line regimens will help to decrease the risk of complications and prevent further transmission and re-infections.
STI medication orders are filled at the Sexual Health Clinic and free courier services will deliver your order to your clinic.

Who is eligible?
Ottawa Public Health will supply publicly-funded medications for:
- Empiric treatment of suspected chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) infections;
- Treatment of laboratory-confirmed chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and LGV infections;
- Treatment of sexual partners of individuals diagnosed with one of these infections.
Medications available
- Azithromycin
- Benzathine Penicillin G (Bicillin®)*: requires maintenance of cold chain
- Cefixime
- Ceftriaxone
- Doxycycline
Please note, any expired STI medications may be disposed of as per your clinic’s policy.
